Ingredients
Scale
2 oz good quality bourbon
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
8 fresh mint leaves
Crushed ice
Instructions
Place the mint leaves and sugar in the bottom of a chilled metal Julep cup.
Gently muddle the mint leaves with the sugar. You want to release the oils, not shred the leaves.
Add the bourbon to the cup.
Fill the cup two-thirds full with crushed ice. Stir briefly to chill the liquid.
Top the drink with more crushed ice, forming a mound above the rim of the cup.
Garnish with a large, fresh sprig of mint inserted near the straw so the mint touches your nose as you sip.
Notes
Use only crushed ice; cubes will not chill the drink correctly.
The cup should frost on the outside; this indicates the proper temperature.
If you do not have a Julep cup, a sturdy rocks glass works as a substitute.
