Ingredients
Scale
1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
4 slices deli ham, thinly sliced
4 ounces Gruyère cheese, shredded
1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
1 teaspoon water
Pinch of black pepper
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet onto a lightly floured surface. Cut the sheet into 6 equal rectangles.
Place one slice of ham on the lower half of each pastry rectangle. Sprinkle about 2/3 ounce of shredded Gruyère cheese over the ham on each piece.
Fold the top half of the pastry over the filling to create a bundle or turnover shape. Press the edges firmly together with your fingers to seal. Crimp the edges with a fork for a decorative seal.
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create the egg wash. Brush the tops of each bundle lightly with the egg wash and sprinkle with a small pinch of black pepper.
Place the bundles on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffed.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving warm.
Notes
For extra flavor, you can brush the inside of the pastry with a thin layer of Dijon mustard before adding the ham and cheese.
If you do not have Gruyère, Swiss cheese works well for these ham and gruyere snacks.
These are best served warm, making them perfect for easy entertaining.
