Ingredients
Scale
4 bone-in pork chops, about 1 inch thick
1 tablespoon olive oil
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 cup guava paste
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
Prepare the guava BBQ sauce: In a small saucepan, combine the guava paste, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and garlic powder.
Heat the sauce over medium heat, stirring until the guava paste melts and the mixture is smooth. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to combine. Remove from heat.
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grates.
Rub the pork chops with olive oil, then season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
Grill the pork chops for 4 to 5 minutes per side for medium doneness, or until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
During the last 2 minutes of cooking, brush the guava BBQ sauce liberally onto both sides of the pork chops. Flip and brush the other side. Continue grilling until the glaze is slightly caramelized.
Remove the pork chops from the grill and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving with extra warm sauce on the side.
Notes
For a thinner glaze, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water to the sauce while simmering.
You can make this guava BBQ sauce ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to one week.
If you do not have guava paste, you can substitute it with 3/4 cup of guava jelly.
