Ingredients
Scale
1 large loaf Italian or French bread (about 3 feet long)
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 pound thinly sliced deli ham
1 pound thinly sliced deli turkey
1/2 pound thinly sliced Genoa salami
1/2 pound thinly sliced provolone cheese
1/2 pound thinly sliced Swiss cheese
1 large tomato, thinly sliced
1 small red onion, thinly sliced
1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
Slice the loaf of bread in half lengthwise, keeping the two halves connected at the bottom hinge if possible, or separate them completely.
In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, red wine vinegar, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder to create the dressing.
Spread the dressing evenly over the cut sides of both bread halves.
Layer the meats and cheeses on the bottom half of the bread. Start with the ham, then turkey, salami, provolone, and finally the Swiss cheese. Press the layers down gently.
Arrange the tomato slices and red onion slices over the cheese layer. Drizzle lightly with olive oil.
Top with the shredded lettuce.
Place the top half of the bread over the fillings. Gently press the entire sandwich together.
Wrap the entire sub tightly in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the bread to absorb some moisture.
Before serving at your graduation party food event, remove the plastic wrap. Slice the sub into 2-inch thick handheld portions for easy serving.
Notes
Wrapping the sub tightly helps compress the layers, making it easier to slice and serve for an open house format.
For best results, assemble this party sub recipe the day before your event.
You can substitute any deli meats or cheeses you prefer for this easy party lunch.
