Create photogenic milestone desserts for your graduation party food spread using these easy graduation desserts. Simple assembly makes these themed cupcakes accessible for any host.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 standard baked cupcakes (your favorite flavor)
  • 1 cup vanilla frosting
  • 1/4 cup black food coloring gel
  • 12 square chocolate candies (e.g., thin chocolate wafers or squares)
  • 12 small yellow or gold sprinkles/candies (for the tassel)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your baked cupcakes. Let them cool completely before frosting.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the vanilla frosting with the black food coloring gel until you achieve a deep, solid black color.
  3. Frost the top of each cupcake evenly with the black frosting. This forms the base of the cap.
  4. Place one square chocolate candy onto the center of the frosting on each cupcake. This square represents the top of the graduation cap.
  5. Place one yellow or gold sprinkle or candy near one edge of the chocolate square to represent the tassel.
  6. Arrange the finished graduation cap cupcakes on a platter for serving at your 2026 graduation ideas event.

Notes

  • For the best black color, use gel food coloring rather than liquid, as it requires less volume and will not thin your frosting.
  • You can make these diy graduation treats one day ahead and store them covered at room temperature.
  • If you cannot find square chocolate candies, you can cut thin chocolate bars into squares before assembly.
