- 1 pound dried navy beans
- 6 cups water
- 1 onion, diced
- 6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- Soak the navy beans in water overnight. Drain and rinse.
- Place the soaked beans in the slow cooker with 6 cups of water.
- Add the diced onion, crumbled bacon, brown sugar, molasses, ketchup, mustard, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
- Stir well to combine all ingredients.
- Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 4 hours, until the beans are tender.
- Stir occasionally and add water if needed.
- Serve hot as a side dish.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon.
- Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
